Update: Alberta Advantage Immigration Program's (AAIP) Worker Expression of Interest Process

Effective September 30, 2024, at 10 am, candidates interested in the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) must submit a Worker Expression of Interest (EOI) to receive an invitation to apply for one of the AAIP’s worker streams

What is the Worker EOI Points Grid?

The Worker EOI points grid is a scoring system the AAIP uses to assess and rank candidates who submit a Worker EOI. Each candidate’s submission will be evaluated based on specific criteria, and points will be awarded accordingly. This system aims to streamline the selection process and ensure that the most qualified candidates are invited to apply for permanent residency in Alberta.

Key criteria for points allocation include education, relevant work experience, language proficiency, age, having a job offer from an Alberta employer, and adaptability factors like prior work or study in Canada. For more details, please download the attached file.

Take Note!

  • No Application Fee: It is important to note that submitting a Worker EOI incurs no cost, allowing candidates to express their interest without financial barriers.

  • Self-Declaration Process: Candidates will complete an online Worker EOI form via the AAIP portal, where they will self-declare their qualifications and relevant experiences.

  • Scoring and Ranking: Each Worker EOI will be evaluated based on the Worker EOI points grid, which will determine candidate rankings according to specified criteria.

  • Ongoing Draws: The AAIP will conduct ongoing draws from the Worker Stream pool. Invitations will be issued based on EOI scores and alignment with provincial labor market needs. Candidates with higher scores and skills meeting Alberta’s priorities will likely be selected more.

  • Submission Timeline: It is essential to emphasize that while the Worker EOI system will be accessible starting September 30, 2024, there is no need to rush to submit a Worker EOI. The AAIP will not initiate draws from the Worker Stream pool until mid or late October 2024. This allows candidates ample time for thorough preparation and completion of their submissions.

Preparation Steps:

Candidates are encouraged to take the following steps to prepare for the Worker EOI submission:

  1. Verify Eligibility: Confirm that you meet the eligibility requirements for one or more AAIP worker streams.

  2. Review the Points Grid: Familiarize yourself with the Worker EOI points grid to understand the type of information collected and how points are awarded.

  3. Check Existing Applications: Candidates may only hold one Worker EOI at a time. Ensure any existing Worker EOIs, Entrepreneur EOIs, or active AAIP applications are withdrawn before submitting a new Worker EOI.

  4. Create or Update Your Alberta.ca Account: Ensure you possess a valid, basic Alberta.ca account for submission.
