The First Express Entry draw of 2023 occurred with a CRS Cut off of 507 and the total number of Candidates invited was 5,500. While this draw was exciting for many, it was also disappointing to many permanent resident hopefuls. When compared to the previous draw in November, which had a CRS cut-off of 491 and invited 4,750 candidates, this most recent draw, which had a CRS cut-off of 507 and 5,500 invited candidates, came as a surprise to those applicants in the 480 range who were hoping their ITA would arrive soon.
On November 23rd, 2022, the last draw of the year was held before an unexpected pause. On December 15th, IRCC issued a statement explaining that an IT error had affected provincial nomination candidates, Canadian Experience Class applicants, and other applicants in the Express Entry pool.
PNP applicants with a nomination certificate that had a 4-digit NOC Code were experiencing challenges when trying to update their profile using code 93888, which in some cases, rendered their profile ineligible.
Some CEC applicants were informed by the system that they met the minimum entry requirements when they actually did not have sufficient work experience. This error led to a number of ITA’s incorrectly issued to candidates during the November 23rd round of invitations.
As we entered the new year and there was still no Express Entry draw in sight, it was speculated that the extended pause could be due to IRCC’s plan to begin implementing occupation targetted draws in the spring of this year.
Since July, these draws have moved slowly, which has been a frustrating experience for those who have had to update their IELTS results and for those whose score continues to fall owing to age and other factors.
