Express Entry Update: Job Offer Points Removed from CRS Score

A major change is coming to Canada’s Express Entry system! As of March 25, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will no longer award additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points for job offers. This update affects both current and future candidates in the Express Entry pool.

What’s Changing?

Previously, candidates with a valid job offer received additional CRS points, giving them a competitive edge. As of March 25, 2025, these extra points will be removed for:

  • Senior management positions (NOC Major Group 00) – previously worth 200 points

  • All other skilled occupations – previously worth 50 points

This means job offers will no longer directly improve your CRS score in Express Entry draws.

How Will This Affect Your CRS Score?

If you had job offer points in your Express Entry profile, your CRS score may drop. It may take a few days for these changes to reflect in the system, so don’t be alarmed. However, if your score doesn’t update correctly after a week, you may need to contact IRCC.

What’s Not Changing?

While job offer points are being removed from CRS calculations, job offers still matter for program eligibility. You must still include your job offer details in your Express Entry profile if you are applying under:

  • The Federal Skilled Trades Program

  • The Federal Skilled Worker Program

  • Certain Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) streams

These programs may still require a valid job offer, even though it will no longer impact your CRS score.

How to Improve Your Express Entry Score Without Job Offer Points

With job offer points removed, other factors will play a bigger role in determining your CRS ranking. Here are some ways to boost your CRS score:

✔️ Improve your language test scores (IELTS/CELPIP)

✔️ Gain more Canadian work experience

✔️ Complete additional education credentials

✔️ Apply for a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) to gain extra points

✔️ Strengthen your spouse’s CRS factors (if applicable)

Final Thoughts: What This Means for Express Entry Candidates

This update marks a significant shift in how candidates are ranked. If you were relying on job offer points, it’s time to reassess your strategy. Ensure your Express Entry profile is accurate and up to date, and explore other pathways to maximize your score.
