Canada has announced the opening of the first-ever Express Entry invitations for newcomers with expertise in the trades.

The Honourable Marc Miller (Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship) stated that this round of category-based selection recognizes these skilled trades workers as essential, and looks forward to welcoming more of these talented individuals to Canada.
Recall that the changes to Express Entry, announced by the previous Minister, the Honourable Sean Fraser, on May 31, 2023, have been tailored to prioritize candidates with specific work experience or French language ability for permanent residence.
The category-based selection system, implemented as part of the Federal Skilled Trades Program, aims to attract skilled tradespeople such as carpenters, plumbers, and welders to meet the increasing demand for talent in the construction sector across the country.
Express Entry remains Canada's flagship application management system for individuals seeking to permanently immigrate through the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Canadian Experience Class, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and a portion of the Provincial Nominee Program.
These strategic measures align with the Government of Canada's commitment to attracting top global talent and supporting economic priorities through immigration.
As the program unfolds, more details on future category-based selection rounds will be revealed in the coming weeks.
