It’s been more than a year of travel restrictions due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and immigrants who have a valid Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) are now eligible to travel to Canada. Nevertheless, there are specific COVID-19 travel requirement and those with a valid COPR who adhere with these requirements can immigrate to Canada, activate their status, live and work in Canada.
On June 21st, the Canadian Immigration Minister, Marco Mendicino announced the that foreign nationals who hold a valid Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) may travel to Canada.
Prior to the travel restriction, immigrate who held a valid COPR issued on or before March 18, 2020 were exempted from Canada’s travel restriction. A large number of foreign nationals have been unable to travel to Canada to activate their status after March 18, 2020, which means that those with COPR with plans to immigrate to Canada have been outside Canada for more than a year.
Who Can travel to Canada and What you need to do to enter Canada.
Valid COPR holders have now been added on the list of exemptions from Canada’s travel restrictions, which means that they can now enter Canada. As at Just 5th 2021, fully Vaccinated Individuals would be exempt of travel restrictions but until then, there are specific Covid-19 travel requirement and those with COPR must adhere to these travel requirements:
All travelers must show negative/positive COVID-19 test result within 72hours prior to boarding their flight.
Upon arrival to Canada, all travelers are required to take the COVID-19 test, and while waiting for the test result, they must be quarantined at a government authorized hotel at their own expense and the hotel must be reserved prior to boarding the flight.
All travelers to Canada are required submit information regarding their travel, contact details, quarantine plan, and COVID-19 self-assessment, travel history of countries visited within 14 day period, proof of vaccination in ArriveCAN before arrival to Canada.
Only four airports in Canada are currently accepting international arrivals: Toronto-Pearson, Montreal-Trudeau, Vancouver International, and Calgary International.
WHO CAN NOT TRAVEL
If your COPR and permanent resident visa has expired or is expiring and you’re outside Canada, then you cannot travel to Canada until you get your documents reissued. Information on when and how to obtain a new COPR will soon be available on the IRCC website. According to the IRCC website , instructions regarding document reissuing will be posted soon.
At this time, IRCC asks that individuals whose COPR has expired should not book flights or attempt to travel to Canada until they receive a new COPR from IRCC. Details on how to get your COPR and permanent residence visa reissued, will be posted here once it is available on IRCC website.
