Alberta Advantage Immigration Program to Implement New Expression of Interest System

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) announced that it will be implementing a new expression of interest (EOI) system effective September 30, 2024.

Recall that in June 2024, AAIP introduced new guidelines for the Alberta Opportunity Stream, Rural Renewal Stream, and Accelerated Tech Pathway, similar to those used in the Tourism and Hospitality Stream. This system targets a specific number of applications for a pool from which AAIP will draw, providing applicants multiple opportunities to apply year-round.

Applications were initially scheduled to be accepted monthly on specified dates from June to December, but this schedule has been canceled due to the new system.

What Does This Mean for Potential Immigrants?

The new EOI system will replace this process, allowing for a more streamlined and efficient application management. While specific details about the new EOI system are yet to be released, it's expected to introduce changes to the way potential immigrants express their interest in moving to Alberta and how applications will be processed.

What is the Expression of Interest System?

The EOI system is designed to assess and prioritize candidates based on a range of factors, such as their skills, work experience, and ties to Alberta. Under this system, potential candidates will submit an expression of interest, which will then be ranked and selected based on specific criteria.

This approach aims to better match candidates with the needs of the Alberta labor market and enhance the overall efficiency of the immigration process.

Permanent Residence through Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)

The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) opens its doors to applications for various streams, and we've got the essential document checklist for you. This program enables eligible applicants to secure an Alberta Provincial Nomination, kickstarting their journey toward Canadian permanent residency.

  • Tourism and Hospitality Stream: Qualified candidates who live and work in Alberta and have a full-time job offer to continue working with an Alberta tourism and hospitality sector employer.

  • Alberta Opportunity Stream: Qualified candidates who live and work in Alberta and have a job offer from an Alberta employer can apply for an AAIP nomination.

  • Alberta Express Entry Stream: Qualified candidates may be invited to apply for nomination who have profiles in the federal Express Entry pool aligned with minimum requirements, factors that increase the chances of selection, and provincial economic, sector, and occupational priorities. There are also dedicated pathways operated in this stream for healthcare professionals and technology workers.

  • Rural Renewal Stream: Communities must apply for and become designated before recruiting and endorsing qualified candidates. Temporary foreign workers who have a job offer from an Alberta employer in a designated community, and an endorsement letter from a designated community, can then apply for an AAIP nomination. Communities can also endorse refugees who qualify under the Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP) with the support of a non-governmental referral partner. Referral partners help EMPP candidates with the AAIP application process.

We are pleased that Alberta has revised its application system, addressing previous inefficiencies. The old system was overloaded, with thousands competing for limited spots and frequent technical issues. The new system offers a streamlined experience, and eligible applicants simply submit an expression of interest, and if they meet the criteria, they will receive an invitation during the selection draws.
